Since Fedora 22, Fedora’s default display server for GDM is Wayland instead of X11. Whilst this is a good move towards retiring X there are still reports of fairly severe Wayland problems on certain hardware, for example systems with Nvidia Optimus graphics configurations or multiple GPUs.
To avoid such issues Wayland has been disabled in GDM’s configuration since Chapeau 22 and this remains in Chapeau 23, so X remains the default display server for the login screen and desktop sessions for now.

Changes since Chapeau 22

Compared to Chapeau 22 the following features have changed in Chapeau 23.

  • New additional Chapeau wallpapers
  • The Hardware Helper Tool (hht) has replaced Pharlap.
  • PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) is now pre-installed.
  • The Korora repository has been removed.
  • Fedup is now obsolete and so is no longer pre-installed.
  • Powertop is no longer pre-installed as powertopd can cause USB input devices to go to sleep by default.
